H.R. 4706

April 26, 2018

Better known as The Music Modernization Act of 2018. I downloaded the pdf and it’s over 100 pages long, but there’s an overview that you can download here. By all accounts it’s a really good thing – my musician, songwriter, publisher and label friends all feel that way, and I’m excited about it! We in the music industry have been crippled ever since the digital world made music so easy to share…freely. We want music to be available but in order to make good music we have to be compensated, and this Act will level the playing field. There have been many scenarios about what the world would be like without music, but you know personally what it means to you, so just think about the songs you love to hear and realize they wouldn’t exist if someone couldn’t afford to make them.

It’s remarkable that this legislation passed UNANIMOUSLY! 415 votes in the House.

COME ON! That just hardly ever happens!

Christopher Moore’s new book is out. I haven’t ordered it yet, but I like the way he writes, especially “Lamb, the Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal”. Yea, really… I wrote Christopher and thanked him for a passage in the book that took place behind the tabernacle (I won’t elaborate) and he replied – “you’re welcome”.

The name Biff gets a bad rap because of movies like “Back to the Future”, but being Christ’s best childhood friend kinda more than makes up for it.

Hopefully “Noir” will follow up in the same playful vein.

Aly Cutter and I wrote a song today – we have had two writing sessions and finished two songs, and that doesn’t always happen, you know… She’ll be singing “Karma” tomorrow night at George Jones off 2nd Avenue and I think you’d enjoy the show! I played on a bit of her music when Kenny Beard (KB) was producing, and she made a big believer out of me. Honest and real, the kind of artist we all want to support.

Randy Scruggs

April 18, 2018

I had the distinct honor of playing guitar on several projects that Randy produced over the years at his studio in Berry Hill. I was intimidated at first – here was a stellar musician and member of a legacy family, asking me to play the guitar! But he was so low key, focused and considerate that I just relaxed and got into the song and the singer, with Randy’s guidance.

I wish I had gotten to know Randy better. We are only here for a little while, and good ones like Randy need to be held in high esteem, and remembered with fondest for the great things they accomplished.

Alexa doesn’t know my name

April 17, 2018

I’ve been trying to find my album, “Sounds of Time”, on Amazon in the CD and vinyl section. Not there… and I’ve asked Alexa to play it and she just plays dumb. It’s available in the mp3 streaming department but I have a lot of family, friends and fans that want the hardware. So I’m reaching out to find the answer, also promoting the software here!
